Where knowledge ends, research begins. To encounter the unknown ENS engineers have the experience and know-how to perform research and experimental design. In search of a fitting solution to any problem, realistic alternatives are defined, tested, and compared to design criteria.

3D printed material

Building with new materials and new construction methods requires gathering of data. For the engineering of a 3D printed structure, ENS performed material research explaining why and how the material failed. As part of that defining the essential properties that describe strength and stiffness.

Sunshading PULSE

Can sun shading be 3D printed, self supporting, and optimized for the facade orientation? In a multidisciplinary team, ENS engineers have designed and researched the structural cable system that would carry the shading elements.

Circular Arch bridge

“Reduce, Reuse and Recycle: the mission for current and future generation engineers.” The Circular Arch Bridge is a demonstrator project to address these 3 R’s in structural design and engineering. The structure is optimized to reduce the amount of material needed. The structure is designed for assembly and disassembly using a dry-stacking principle of the arch. The structure consists of various recycled and low-CO2 materials.
